Inspire Students with a Passion for Learning
The mission of the Manatee County School Board is to inspire our students with a passion for learning, empowered to pursue their dreams confidently and creatively while contributing to our community, nation and world.
The Manatee County school system is dedicated to serving students by providing state of the art curriculum, instruction and facilities to promote higher student achievement in preparation for tomorrow’s workforce.
The Manatee County school district has a total of more than 42,000 students enrolled in 32 elementary schools, 9 middle schools, 6 high schools, and one Technical Institute. The school system saw an increase of nearly 1,600 students last year.
School administrators and staff strive to create a balanced, cohesive education program for students from the first day they enter the school system until the day they graduate. From pre-K through the elementary grades, emphasis is placed on teaching the basics for a solid foundation of academic skills. Honors and language courses are introduced during the middle school years in preparation for the transition into high school where students proceed with college preparatory or a vocational focus. Numerous clubs, sports, and arts activities are offered, as well as a selection of advanced placement courses at all high schools and dual enrollment courses through State College of Florida.
Magnet programs are offered at ten schools, each orchestrating the district-wide curriculum through a central theme. Students of diverse backgrounds join together with a common interest around which lessons and units are taught through application and the development of topic oriented courses.
Manatee County Public Schools is the largest employer in the county with more than 7,000 employees. It is also the first school district in the state of Florida to receive the Office of Program Policies and Governmental Accountability (OPPAGA) Seal for Best Financial Management. The State Board of Education acknowledges both the commitment of the current school board members to financial accountability to their community and the Superintendent's pledge to implement the best practices recommended by OPPAGA through the hard work of his staff.
The School Board of Manatee County is committed to Florida's system of School Improvement and Accountability. Each school has formed a School Advisory Council (SAC) with representatives from staff, parents and community leaders. The goal of the SAC is to develop a comprehensive plan to improve the academic learning of all students.
