Grant Helps Break Barriers to Treatment for Mental Health Court Clients
Sarasota, Fla. – Centerstone, a nonprofit leader in mental health and substance use disorder treatment, has received a $2,500 grant from the Cowles Charitable Trust to support participants in Sarasota County’s Mental Health Court program.
Mental Health Court serves adults with a mental health diagnosis who are involved in the criminal justice system. The program provides a diversion opportunity by offering evidence-based behavioral health interventions, treatment services, and connections to community and social supports. These resources are designed to improve participants’ quality of life while reducing the likelihood of rearrest.
Participants engage in psychiatric treatment, individual and group therapy, case management, and regular court accountability. Services are provided at little or no cost, ensuring access to professional, high-quality care.
The funding will help remove barriers that often prevent participants from staying engaged in treatment, such as transportation and medication costs. The Cowles Charitable Trust has supported Mental Health Court in the past, continuing its investment in recovery-focused solutions that improve lives and strengthen the community.
“We are grateful to the Cowles Charitable Trust for their continued support, which allows us to provide essential resources and guidance for individuals navigating the Mental Health Court program,” said Lisa Williams, regional CEO at Centerstone.
Centerstone is on track to serve more participants this year than in previous years, providing professional, accessible, quality treatment and support services while helping individuals remain accountable to the Court.
