Big Bank Theory

Financial Literacy Program for High School Seniors

The Manatee Chamber’s Big Bank Theory program is designed to strengthen the financial literacy skills of high school students throughout Manatee County. Through an interactive, real-world financial simulation, students gain firsthand experience managing the responsibilities and challenges of adult finances.

Often compared to the “Game of Life,” the program requires students to navigate a monthly budget while making important financial decisions related to housing, transportation, food, clothing, insurance, and other everyday expenses. The goal is to help students understand the impact of their choices and develop practical money-management skills that will serve them well into adulthood.

As a volunteer, you will play a vital role in bringing this experience to life. Volunteers staff budget stations that represent common expenses faced by young adults and guide students as they make spending decisions and work to stay within their assigned budgets. Your encouragement and real-world perspective help create a meaningful and memorable learning experience.

Volunteer Shifts

Two volunteer shifts are available each day:

  • Morning Shift – 7:15 to 11:15 AM (our greatest need)
  • Early Afternoon Shift – 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM
  • All-Day Shift – 7:15 AM to 2:30 PM (lunch provided by our generous sponsors)

Getting involved is easy! Prior to the event, new volunteers can attend a brief orientation that provides an overview of the program, its objectives, how the budget stations operate, and what to expect during your shift. Click the link to register for an orientation.
